Jay Howard Memmott


MemmottJayMilitaryMemmottJayHatCropJune 17, 2018 (Father’s Day) Jay got his Father’s Day wish and returned ‘home’ to be with his wife Arlene again, just 9 days short of his 99th Birthday. He was born June 26,1919 to Forrest W. And Catherine Esklund Memmott in Scipio, Utah. Jay was one of those brave men that landed on Omaha Beach in June 1944. He also saw the atrocities of the Nazi death camps and carried those memories with him for the rest of his life. After World War II he married Arlene Probert on February 26, 1946 (later sealed as a family on May 5, 1955 in the Manti, Utah Temple) and they farmed/ranched together for the next 69 years. He was a dairyman for many years milking cows every morning and evening. Jay was a mechanic able to fix most anything, he also worked hard doing highway construction, and threshing to supplement a farming income. Jay served on the Scipio Town Board and was over the movie theater during some of the years it existed in Scipio, was in LDS Church bishopric for 13 years and in many other positions, including a mission to Cove Fort with his wife Arlene.
He was proceeded in death by his parents as well as his siblings Ossie (Lon) Memmott, Harmon (Klea) Memmott, Ross (Penney) Memmott, Chester (Esther) Memmott, Enid (Gay) Worwood, Jewel (Melba) Memmott.
Jay is survived by his children: Rosalie (George) Nolan of Taylorsville, Randall J (Mylene) Memmott of Scipio and Thomas C (Carolyn) Memmott of Scipio.
Jay has 14 Grandchildren, 44 Great Grandchildren and 3 Great Great Grandchildren.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the Victorian House in Levan, Utah and Central Valley Medical Center Home Health and Hospice for their kindness, care, and love towards Jay and his family.
There will be a viewing at the Scipio Ward meeting house on Thursday June 21 from 6:30 to 8:30 PM as well as Friday June 22 from 10:00 to 11:30 AM. The funeral will be held at noon Friday June 22. Interment will be in the Scipio Cemetery.
