Carol Backus Beardall

9/27/1949 ~ 10/7/2021

Carol Backus Beardall, wife of LaMar Beardall, left this mortal world held in the arms of her eternal soul and inspiration and her children on October 7, 2021. She was welcomed home to the arms of her Savior. She had a deep and growing testimony of Jesus Christ and the plan of salvation and was firm in her knowledge that families are forever.

She was born to loving parents, Anna Jean Duncan and Earl Eugene Backus, on September 27, 1949. She grew up in Orem where she learned to love and appreciate all facets of nature.

Carol met her sweetheart in ninth grade and has been his eternal companion for 49 years. Carol and LaMar were married for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple on March 3, 1972. They have been inseparable ever since.

Although she has held many titles during her lifetime, Darlin’, Mom and Grammy were her most beloved. Somehow she made every one of her children and grandchildren feel they were her favorite, and they were. She and Poppy always made time to attend every game, concert, recital or special event. She was our biggest cheerleader and fan. Grandkids will forever cherish playing card games, puzzles, and having quiet conversations with Grammy.

Carol knew the name of every bird, tree and flower. She loved autumn leaves and flowering things. She made sure her family appreciated the beauty of God’s creations. She was a gifted real estate agent and was closing deals until the end from her hospital bed. She had a mantra that she lived her life by: “Because nice matters.” Being nice to people in her business and personal relationships was important to her. She truly loved people.

As a righteous member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, her most treasured calling was that of a temple worker at the Manti Utah Temple where she served with her eternal companion. She thoroughly enjoyed her time there as she grew in testimony and in friendships.

“If I only could have known you sooner, I could have loved you longer.”

Our loving wife, mom and Grammy is survived by her devoted husband, LaMar Beardall, and five children: Emily (Korey) Wright, Nick (Lareesha) Beardall, Sarah (Andy) Avery, Laura (Fred) Hermansen, and Jenny (Marc) Snijman and 16 grandchildren and two great-children. She is also survived by her three siblings: Gail (Richard) Tolley, Kathryn DeSantis, and Duncan (Meg) Backus. She was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Anna Backus, and her granddaughter, BreaAnn.

Funeral services will be held Thursday October 14, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. in the Moroni Stake Center (82 N Center, Moroni, UT). A viewing will be held Wednesday, October 13, 2021, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the church and Thursday 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment in the Moroni City Cemetery.

I’m sure Carol touched many lives – I was lucky enough to have met her and LaMar through their friendship with my parents. It was almost weekly that I would hear about their trips or their fun nights playing games with the Beardalls. I know it was a treasured friendship for my parents, and that Carol will be deeply missed.
It’s always difficult to have people leave us in the mortal life. Mourning is for the living because we now have to live with the void that she leaves behind, however, I know Carol is happy and health now, and is waiting patiently for the future reunions with the friends and family she leaves behind.
There are tears of sadness at the loss, but there should also be tears of joy and laughter as we reminisce on the fond memories and treasured experiences we each had with Carol.
My thoughts and prayers are with her friends and family during this time.

We are heartbroken for your loss of sweet Carol. She helped us relocate here and get us settled. She made a hard time bearable and reassured us. She was a beautiful woman who was a great example of kindness. I admire the dedication you guys have as a couple and I know you will be together again. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.

  7. LaMar, I am so sorry to hear about your loss. I am thankful for the many times you helped me with Post Office problems. You always had time to listen. You and your family are in my prayers. Just remember all the good times you had together.

  8. The Backus family will always hold a soft spot in my heart. Carol and I were roommates at Snow College and she was one of those people that always stay attached to my heart. After Snow, I spent many days at the Backus home or meeting Carol for lunch. We were at each others weddings & my last visit was 12 years ago when LaMar & Carol came to my 60th birthday party. Never enough time…..but eternally connected. I’m so sorry LaMar & family. I see your mother in each of your faces. You were blessed with a woman that truly loved life & loved to laugh. This is when eternal blessings come into focus & we know we will see them “in a while.” Our love and prayers are ascending regularly. Keep her alive in stories and laughter.
