Gary Donald Faatz

7/13/1963 ~ 7/25/2022

Gary Donald Faatz was born in Mayfield, Utah on July 22, 1941, the son of Donald Carl Faatz and Barbara Devoda Voorhees. He married Oneita Sue Madsen Friday, July 13th 1963. He spent much of his professional life working for Ford Motor Company, and through this association, he was able to work in several areas of the country, including Michigan, Colorado, Utah, and New Mexico. Gary loved the outdoors and fostered this love in his children. The family often rode motorcycles, camped, and hiked. He was also a connoisseur of music and loved many genres including classical, rock, and particularly Jazz. As a young man, he played in a Jazz Quartet and was in the band that played at Oneita’s prom. They did not meet then. Instead, they were set up by Gary’s sister and navigated dating with the help of Gary’s enthusiastic family. He was a poet and an avid book collector, inspired by his passion for nature and the perfect word. He is survived by Oneita, his children: Erick D. (Alisa), Aaron G., Andrea (Daniel) Macfarlane, Christian (Jill) and Laura, as well as seven grandchildren.

There will not be a public memorial service.

  1. I did not know Gary but volunteered at the Fairview Museum with Oneita. Sending my deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to the Faatz family.

I’ve lost a dear friend; the husband of a dear friend; and the father of a dear friend. Several of us invited ourselves to stopover with the Faatz’s in Denver. We had such a wonderful time. None of us have ever forgotten. There was a lot of talk of books, an introduction to Andrea Bochelli’s music, and a lot of good conversation. He has some sweet friends visiting with him now. Blessings on Oneita, Laura, and the other children. I love you all.

Gary was a good high school friend, co-worker & sportscar owner. He had a MGA & I had a Austin Healey. We loved road trips around Utah. The most memorable was to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon with R.K. Jensen & I I think Russell Childs. I am sorry for your loss, Gary was a fun character.

  7. Dear Oneita,
We were sad to read of Gary’s death. We have great memories of when you lived in American Fork and remember him as an upstanding guy. We pray the Lord will be with you.
    Lots of love, The Holleys
