Mary Lula Garlick

2/12/1936 ~ 11/14/2021

Mary Lula Garlick, 85 reunited with her husband and daughter on Sunday Nov. 14, 2021.  She was the only daughter born to Evan Auer and Lura Morley Beck on February 12, 1936.

She attended North Sanpete High School where she was cheerleader for the North Sanpete Rams. She worked for Mountain Bell as a switchboard operator after graduation alongside her mother until the dial phones came out.

She married Calvin Rex Garlick on March 22, 1958, later sealed in the Manti Temple June 4, 1964. She worked side by side with her husband on their family farm despite suffering crippling arthritis.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where she served in many capacities, including Relief Society President and Manti Temple ordinance worker.

She spent her life in the service of others. Despite being in pain on a daily basis and going through multiple surgeries; she never sat idle.  She enjoyed delivering treats to her neighbors, playing card games, watching the Utah Jazz and anything BYU.  She spent many years involved in humanitarian work.  When her health would no longer allow her body to do much of anything, she would fill her days making yarn hats to give to homeless shelters and cancer patients.

She is preceded in death by her husband Calvin Rex Garlick; her daughter, Mary Ann Sorenson; her parents, Evan Auer and Lura Morley Beck; her brothers, Dr. Wallace Evan, Wayne George, Robert H., and Paul Auer Beck.  Survived by her children Becky (Barry) Olsen, Robert (Janeen) and Nancy Garlick; 14 grand and 28 great grand kids.

A Family and close friends service will be held at the Rasmussen Mortuary on Saturday, November 20, 2021, at 11:00 A.M. with interment at the Fairview City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local humanitarian service. Please attend services and leave condolences by using the link at rasmussenmortuary.com in her obituary

    Dear Garlick Family,
We are sorry to hear of your loss of your mom.
She was a very fun loving person.
She once told me before she was born and the lord asked who wanted brains and she misunderstood and he was giving out pains.
She certainly had more than her share, but always a happy person. We send our deepest sympathy to all of you💔🤗

Garlick Family, Your dear Mother was such a sweet, loving, kind woman. She always loved those of her family and friends! Mary Lula had a tender countenance and willingness to serve. We know she is with your Father, Sister, her parents and siblings. Another reunion with those of our wonderful family (apparently we didn’t get invite). 7. What a sweet, kind and wonderful woman. I had the chance to get to know her via Calvin. She showed me so much kindness and patience. I looked forward to spending some time talking to her and I never left her home without feeling better than I walked in. She is also the one that introduced me to “Grandma Vitamins” and I have not been the same since. 🙂
My love is with each of you. Thank you for sharing her with the rest of us over the years. It was an honor to have known her.
