Gary S Backus, 86 of Spring City, Utah, passed away August 24, 2022. Husband of Joyce Backus, father of Sharon (Gregg) Tobler, Colleen (Dean Andersen, Boyd (DeAnn) Backus, Rachel (Brady) Miller Marci (Grant) Murdoch. Funeral Services will be held Monday August 29, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. in the Cedar Creek Ward Chapel (900 N Main). Viewings will be held Sunday August 28, 2020 from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. and Monday from 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. prior to services both viewings will be held at the church. Interment in the Orem City Cemetery under the care of Rasmussen Mortuary.

Gary S Backus passed away in his home in Spring City on August 24, 2022, surrounded by family. Gary was born April 23, 1936, to Eugene and Gertrude Cordner Backus. He was the fourth of eight children. He grew up working hard with his parents and siblings on the family fruit farm in Orem. Robert L Harrington

Bob Harrington passed away peacefully and surrounded by loving family members on August 21, 2022 in Millcreek, Utah, after a courageous battle with sepsis and heart failure.
Bob loved people and was larger than life. He was tremendously outgoing and viewed the world as a place filled with best friends that he was about to meet for the first time.

Bob was born on October 21, 1947 in Ogden, Utah. He was the second child of LaRee Hymas and William Francis Harrington. He loved his parents and three sisters immensely. Janice Buchanan Culley

Janice Buchanan Culley, age 68, died unexpectedly on August 20, 2022, at her home in Ephraim, Utah. Janice was born on January 20, 1954, in Richfield, Utah to Richard and Rigmor “Rae” Jorgensen Buchanan. She graduated in 1972 from Skyline High School in Salt Lake City. She was married to Gary Culley for 28 years and they had four children together and an adopted son. Janice worked as a counselor at a youth treatment program and eventually opened her own business, Pathways Learning Center. She was very passionate about whole integration. She always loved to play board games with her family, especially Yahtzee. She also loved to garden, enjoyed nature, and eating fresh natural healthy foods. Her neighbors always complimented her flowers in the front yard. She was devout in her beliefs, committed her whole life to serving others, and lived a Christ-like life. Dick Lee James

Dick Lee James, 75 of Mt. Pleasant, Utah passed away August 17, 2022 at Utah Valley Hospital. Dick was born on June 21, 1947 to Windom Erval and Thelma Hammond James in Fayette, Utah.

Dick enlisted in the US Airforce and served his country honorably during Vietnam from 1966 to 1969.

Mining took Dick and his family to Colorado and Montana before settling in Fairview, Utah where he was an electrician at Skyline Coal mine. After retiring from the coal mine Dick worked as an electrician at Snow College where he retired in 2013. Read the rest of this entry »

John Allen Syme

John Allen Syme, Died Aug 16, 2022 in Provo at Utah Valley Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. John was born to parents: Lenard Christensen Syme and Bardella Myra Morley on Dec 19th, 1936, in Moroni, Utah. He lived in Moroni all his life except for his time in the Navy. He was stationed at Point Mugu Naval Base in California. While serving in the navy he met his wife, Arelene. They were married shortly after his discharge from the navy and were together for over 61 years. He had four sons, fifteen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time outdoors for work as well as recreation, and help instill those traits in his sons. He will be missed by those that knew him. Private family service will be held at a later date.

Joyce Echols Finlinson

Our dear mother, Joyce Echols Finlinson, 87, of Fool Creek, Utah passed away August 12, 2022, with family by her side.

She was born to the late Robert Lee and Venla Echols, April 2, 1935, in Tucson, Arizona the 8th of 9 children born to the family. Joyce graduated from North Phoenix High School on May 28, 1953. She worked at a bakery where she found her passion for making donuts and decorating cakes. Spencer Lee Morris

Spencer Lee Morris 53, passed away August 10, 2022, in Nephi Utah.

Spencer was born on October 20, 1978, to loving parents Glen Lee and Teri Rae Morris, He was married to Janna Morris later separated. He had 4 children, 2 were special needs boys Bryton and Fenix and 2 Daughters Skylee and Breah.

Spencer loved anything to do with Sports from baseball, basketball, tennis, golf, skiing both water and snow, hunting and fishing he did it all.

He was a graduate of North Sanpete High School, received an associate degree at Snow College and a bachelor’s degree at Utah Valley University.

He is survived by his mother Teri Morris; sister, Rendi Lee Freimuth (Scott), his children, nephews and a niece, and numerous extended family members.

Preceded in Death by his father Glenn Lee Morris and brother Marvin Lee Morris. He will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held in Ephraim for Family members Saturday August 27,2022. In lieu of flowers tell someone you love them. Online condolences at

Kristen Danielle Hanks

Kristen Danielle Hanks, 30 years old, from Las Vegas, Nevada passed away on July 25, 2022. Kristen was born in Las Vegas on October 4, 1991 to adoring parents, Joseph Darin Hanks and Tanya Marguerite Stough. She had the great opportunity to live with her grandparents, Joe and Janis Hanks, in Utah, where she was smothered with love and lifelong experiences. Retuning to Las Vegas, she continued to spend numerous summers and many holidays in Utah. She graduated with honors from Del Sol High School in the Class of 2010 where she grew a love of volleyball. While still in high school, Kristen worked for Craig P Kenny (CPK) & Associates and remained working there while attending college. She had inspiring mentors who pushed her to be the best. Although CPK’s ultimate goal was to have her graduate with a Law Degree, Kristen’s passion was in helping others through the medical field. She made the decision to fulfill her dream and graduated from college with her nursing degree in December of 2018. Kristen continued to play volleyball and kickball as an adult with friends. Scot Sorensen, 59, of Spring City, UT saddled up and took his final ride into the sunset surrounded by his family on August 8, 2022.
Scot was preceded in heaven by his father Keith, and brothers Elliot and Alan. He is survived by his mother Lovina, sisters Neira (Mike Gill) and Tina (Jim Langston), and brother Rick (Jaylynn Yazzie). His legacy lives on in the love of his life, Jennifer Sorensen, and their children and grandchildren; Scott & Sheena Tidwell (Chelsea & Elgen), Shelly McPherson (Jordyn), Spencer & Shanae McPherson (Seth), Shelby McPherson (Izen), Scot & Courtney Sorensen (Eli & Cole), and Nate Edwards & Hannah Sorensen (Bridger).
Scot met Jennifer in 1993, and over their 28 years of marriage, they blended a beautiful family and built a life they loved. Scot was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. He spent his spare time serving his community and loved spending time in the mountains camping, fishing, and hunting with his family and friends.

Viewings will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2022 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday from 9:00 – 10:30 a.m. prior to service both at the Church.
