Alden John Nielson passed away on September 28, 2020 in Oak City, Utah at the age of 96.
Dad was born February 15,1924 to John Lewis and Ida Roper Nielson. He had 5 older sisters and a younger brother. He married Erma Paice in the Manti LDS Temple on June 22, 1948. They were married for 72 years. They were blessed with 3 sons and 3 daughters.
Dad worked on the McIntyre Ranch and then for the Union Pacific Railroad. He, also, worked part-time as an electrician for the Town of Oak City.
Dad lived a life of service. He served in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Salt Lake City during World War II. He was a scout master for many years and received the Silver Beaver Award for his service. He served as the Bishop of the Oak City 1st Ward and also, as Ward Clerk and Sunday School President. Dad and Mom served an LDS Mission in the Bahia Blanca, Argentina Mission.
Dad was a master gardener and shared its bounty freely with others. Watermelons were his specialty, and many were enjoyed by family and friends on the front lawn of their home.
Dad was a tease!!! He loved teasing his grandkids and great-grandkids and they loved to tease him in return. They were one of his greatest joys in life.
Dad is survived by his loving wife, Erma, his sons Doug (Roberta), Dan (Doreen A.), Kim (Joni), all of Oak City, UT; his daughters Kathy (Mark) Mitchell, Price, UT; Doreen (Robby) Kelsey, Oak City, UT; and Bonnie (Kerry) Manis, Lehi, UT; 29 grandchildren and 62 great-grandchildren.
Dad was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Elma Anderson, Susan Shipley, Florence Lovell, Rachel Melville, and Ava Anderson; brother, Gayle; great-grandson, Trey Francis Nielson and great-granddaughter Camden May Jorgensen.
There will be a viewing on Friday, October 9 ,2020 from 6:00-8:00 pm. Funeral services will be held October 10, 2020 at 11:00 am with a viewing prior from 9:30 -10:30 am. All services will be held in the Oak City LDS Church Building. Facemasks are recommended but not required.
