Arlene Englestead Turner, 95, passed away on October 25, 2021 at her home in Kanosh, Utah surrounded by her family. Arlene was born on Aug. 18,1926 in Kanab, UT to Alvin & Lucy Holgate Englestead. Her mother passed away when Arlene was only 6 months old. She was raised by her grandparents, Myron & Margaret Holgate in Orderville, UT. Her father married Martha Williams and Arlene gained a brother, Eric, and a sister, Marian. At age 15, she moved to Kanosh to live with Alvin & Martha. She returned to Orderville to complete her senior year of high school.
Arlene was a well-known softball pitcher, leading her team to win a state championship. She attended BYU and taught elementary school in Holden and Kanosh.
Arlene married Billy J. Turner on January 11, 1946 in Kanosh, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on April 20,1954. They raised their 6 children in Kanosh, Utah where Arlene helped Bill on the farm, driving the combine and grain trucks. Many Kanosh residents enjoyed visiting with her while she worked for 17 years in the Kanosh Post Office.
Arlene was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in many callings. Bill & Arlene served as
missionaries in Cove Fort in 1994 for 6 months. One of her most cherished possessions was her temple recommend, which was current when she passed.
Arlene lived a full life in her 95 years and endured to the very end, surviving 3 cancers and numerous surgeries in her later years. Her favorite thing was spending time with her family, and she had a very special love for each one of them. She knew each family member and what was happening in each of their lives up until the very end of her life. Bill passed away in 1999.
Arlene is survived by her children, Sue (Stan) Koyle, Kanosh, UT; David (Natalie) Turner, St.George, UT; Gloria Jill (Richard) Christensen, Holden, UT; Tim (Cindy) Turner, Kanosh, UT; Margaret (Jeff) Roper, Huntsville, AL; JoAnn Turner, Kanosh, UT; student placement program daughter, Arlene Young, South Jordan, UT; 21 grandchildren; 58
great-grandchildren;
and 4 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband,
Billy J. Turner;
2 grandsons, Spencer
Koyle
and Scott Turner; infant sister, Mavis Englestead; sister, Marian Madsen; brother, Eric Englestead.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 11:00 am in the Kanosh LDS Chapel with a visitation from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 am prior to the services. Interment will be in the Kanosh Cemetery.
