7/16/1932 – 12/1/202
Bob was born as a twin on July 16th, 1932 in Moroni, Utah to Doyle & Rozina Olsen. He was one of four children. Bob attended North Sanpete High School where he played football. He was a lifetime Sanpeter and had a great love for the people & valley of Sanpete. He met his sweetheart & love of his life at a young age, Margaret Nielsen, and they were married on May 2, 1951. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on March 8th, 1986. Bob & Margaret were two peas in a pod, and you never seen one without the other hand in hand. They were married for over 71 years and created a beautiful posterity together, which included 7 children, 27 grandchildren, 70 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren with 3 more on the way and many bonus grandkids he claimed as his own. Bob’s greatest joy and accomplishment was his family. Even with such a large family, he always went out of his way to support and make each one of them feel special. He was so proud of each of them, and he made sure the rest of the world knew it. He would always say, “We have the best family in the world”
Grandpa Bob loved life and lived it to the very fullest. He was the life of the party, and it wasn’t complete until he sang a few songs with his guitar. He had a great love for music and was so proud he could still sing & play at 90 years old. He was a true country boy and spent much of his life in the mountains riding horses, chasing lions, and hunting. He loved playing horseshoes & looked forward to the July tournament every year. He was also a collector of many many things, and if there was a yard sale you could expect to see him & Margaret there.
Bob was the epitome of hard work & didn’t know when to quit. Even up until his very last days on Earth, he would wake up early to feed his animals, tend to his garden, and even cut wood by hand. He worked at the Rubber Plant, Turkey Plant, Coal Mine, and many other side jobs to provide for his family. He was a friend to all & made many lifelong friendships with those he worked with.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a very strong testimony & love for his Savior. He was never afraid to bear testimony and share his beliefs with his family, friends, and even strangers. He held many callings, but his favorite was always being a ward missionary. Bob had a heart of gold, would give the shirt off his back, and loved to serve anyone in need. He loved the temple and took pride in going often when they could. He honored his priesthood & had the opportunity to bless and baptize many of his family members over the years!
To know Bob Olsen was to love Bob Olsen. He was known for his outgoing personality, stubbornness, silly jokes, quick wit, and offering peppermints from his pocket to anyone he came in contact with. He was truly one in a million, and the world won’t be the same without him. We all look forward to the reunion with him again someday!
