Carolyn Jean Stevens

November 27, 1945 — November 21, 2023

Holden

Carolyn Jean Singer Stevens, cherished mother, grandmother, friend, and teacher, peacefully passed away on November 21 at the age of 77. She leaves behind a legacy of empowered minds and grateful hearts. Born in Modesto, California on November 27, 1945 to Frank Singer and Zada Bea Myers, she spent her youth in Hawaii and Virginia Beach as her father served in the navy.

While in high school in Virginia, through the example and support of good friends, Carolyn joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This journey led her to Utah, where she graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in microbiology, later followed by a teaching certificate from SUSC. It was during her time at BYU that she met her husband, Norman, and was married in the Salt Lake Temple on August 19, 1966.

Carolyn possessed the remarkable ability to inspire those around her to see and achieve more than they thought possible. Her contagious passion for science and learning, coupled with innovative teaching methods, left an indelible mark on generations. Whether through her whimsical gingerbread houses, cozy reading bathtub nook, school-built telescopes, or engaging science fair projects, she instilled a profound love for learning in her students. Beyond being an educator, Carolyn was a mentor who encouraged her children and students to dream big and perceive the world on a broader scale.

Carolyn is survived by her devoted husband, Norman, and her six children—Lori, David, Jennifer, Wade, Spencer, and Russell—and nineteen grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her oldest child, Candace Ann Stevens, and grandchild Beck Stevens Davis. Carolyn wished to be remembered for her life dedicated to learning and inspiring others, her love of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the boundless, unconditional love she shared with her family and friends.

A viewing will be held at 10:00 am, with the funeral service following at 12:00 pm on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the Holden Ward Chapel. Interment will take place in the Holden Cemetery.

The Recordings will be available for 60 days from date of service.
