Chad William Cox
I held Chad in my arms when he came into this world and I held him in my arms as he exited this existence, June 16th 2023, surrounded by loving family members and friends. He left us after a valiant struggle with ALS at the young age of 40.
Chad was born almost a month early, in response to the birthday wish of his dad, Lee James Cox, when he was blowing out the candles on his birthday cake. Chad was born on New Year’s Eve, his dad’s birthday, December 31st 1982, in Gunnison Valley Hospital.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, shortly after Chad’s birth, his dad gave him a priesthood blessing. In the blessing he blessed him that he would “grow like a weed.” Chad did. By middle school he stood head and shoulders over all of his peers. He was broad-shouldered and barrel chested. I often told him that God made him big to make room for his heart.
Chad had a big heart. He loved and served everyone he knew in more ways than can be expressed. In a priesthood blessing given to him by Elder Neil L Anderson he was told that he would “leave a legacy of goodness.”
Chad was raised in Manti Utah. As an adult he resided in St George Utah, Ogden Utah, and Bountiful Utah. He worked as a private banker, insurance representative, and later as a computer programmer.
Those who knew him will remember him for his heartwarming smile, loving nature, and his music. He sang, played the piano, and played the violin all with emotion that could stir people to tears. Chad was ever the entertainer even as a child.
I would like to thank Chad’s dad and faithful siblings who have served him diligently with sacrifice and love, Hometown Personal Care, all the true friends in the community and ward, as well as those of the legal, and medical profession who lovingly served Chad. As Chad went through this ordeal we would pray for angels to surround him. We soon discovered most of the angels were of this earthly existence. Thank you, we love you, and Chad loved you.
Chad is survived by his wife Catherine LeVitre, his son William (Liam) Cox, as well as his parents Lee James Cox and Lora Sondrup Cox, his brothers and sisters Christopher Lee Cox, Curt Clifford Cox (Rachel Christensen), Cyle Max Cox (Sydney Miller), Sarah Tui (Tu Tui), Shelby Menet (Eli Menet), and Daniel Cox (Alysse Eddington), and their children.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Max Arthur Cox, Melva Denison Cox, Clifford Harvey Sondrup and Maxine Barlow Sondrup.
His evening viewing will be held Wednesday June 21st at the Manti Stake Center from 6-8pm. The funeral will be Thursday June 22nd at 11am at the Manti Stake Center following a morning viewing from 9:30-10:30 am. Interment in the Manti Cemetery.
