Dr. Eric Vance Dent, a veterinarian, entrepreneur, horseman, and resident of Mt. Pleasant, Utah died unexpectedly in a car accident on April 6, 2020 at the young age of 39.
Eric was born on February 4, 1981 to Vance Lynn and Fern Lynn Dent. He was raised in a rural production animal setting in Hoytsville, Utah. He was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and uncle. On November 5, 2003 he married his beautiful wife, Melissa I Mortenson, daughter of Peter Olpin and Karma Jean Mortenson, and was sealed for eternity in the Jordan River Temple. Together they raised 3 wonderful children. Eric was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Eric loved the Lord and loved attending the Temple weekly.
Eric was very goal driven, passionate, and caring individual. Dr. Dent enjoyed all outdoor activities but especially starting colts, riding horses in the mountains, camping, and spending time with his wife and children. He worked as a farrier to put himself through school and has trained horses for many years.
Dr. Dent earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Missouri. He is the founder and majority shareholder in several animal related businesses (veterinary clinic, horse training company, animal industry educational companies) and has a true love for entrepreneurship.
Eric had a passion for helping people succeed and grow in life. He loved to teach and was very good at it. Any conversation he had was a chance to teach those around him. Being very creative, Eric could figure out anything using his keen mind and an impeccable gift for acquiring knowledge. This knowledge allowed him to live life to the fullest amongst family and friends.
Eric is survived by his wife, Melissa I Mortenson Dent; his children, Aspen Lynn Dent, Ty Reed Dent, and Weston Paul Dent; his brothers and sisters, TeKoi Lynn Dent (Angela), Steven Kyle Dent (Brittany), Marcia Dent Potter (Kody), Amy Dent Stokes (Hans) and seventeen nieces and nephews; his parents, and his in-laws.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic restrictions, only a graveside service will be held at 2:00 on Saturday, April 11 at the Mount Pleasant City Cemetery. Only immediate family members are allowed to attend. Those who would like to pay their respects to Dr. Eric Dent may line their cars on State Street. The horse carriage will start down State Street at approximately 1:30. Please stay in your car.
