Esther Espalin Chapin (Salazar), 88, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2024.
Esther was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Born on June 14, 1936, in Greeley, Colorado, she spent her formative years there before pursuing a lifelong passion for education and service. Esther earned an Associate's Degree from Arizona State University. She continued her education at Rio Salado College and went on to serve as a dedicated substitute teacher for more than 19 years. Her work ethic, dedication, and love for helping others left a lasting impression on the many students whose lives she touched.
Above all, Esther cherished her role as a grandmother. She found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren, sharing stories, playing card games, and watching their favorite TV shows together. She was always there to offer love, support, and wisdom, helping guide them through life's challenges with grace and patience.
In her free time, Esther enjoyed the simple pleasures of life -- watching Fox News, staying connected on Facebook, and treating herself to regular hair appointments. She was also deeply committed to her faith, her family, and her country, values she enthusiastically shared with those around her. Esther remained active in her community, dedicated to educating young minds and participating in her church.
She is preceded in death by her brother and sister, and her son, Anthony Robert Velarde. Esther found comfort in believing she was to be reunited with them and is now watching over her loved ones from above.
Esther is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, George Leslie Chapin, her son, David Alan Velarde, her grandchildren Casey (Devan) Chavez and Taylor Velarde, and her great-granddaughter, Elysia Dorotea Chavez. Esther's presence will forever be missed by those who knew and loved her, but her spirit and legacy will never be forgotten.
