Gary B Day, age 73 passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2024, at his home in Enoch UT, surrounded by his family, after a long battle with skin cancer. He was born September 29, 1951, to Noland Eugene and Jennie Adeline Robison Day in Fillmore Utah. Dad was the baby of his family and a very welcome addition to Grandma & Grandpa. He was pretty much the “spoiled” one.
Dad spent his teenage summers in Idaho working alongside his brother Jack, trying out the career of “being a logger”, earning money to buy his first car, his beloved “Orange 57 Chevy”. He loved that car and talked about it often and always regretted selling it. His brother Ned was one of his best friends growing up. They enjoyed hunting and fishing together and often the shenanigans they pulled, turned into “near arrests”, growing the bond between them. Ned was responsible for getting Dad into the Title Insurance industry. When both of his brothers died in their early 40’s, it was devastating to Dad. He missed them terribly and talked “a lot” about their stories his entire life.
In August of 1970, Dad met the love of his life, Marcia Ruth Talbot Day, over a plate of cinnamon rolls made by his mother. On October 30, 1970, they were married in the kindergarten room of the old school in Hinckley, Utah and were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Manti LDS Temple on March 10, 1995. In their early years they lived in Fillmore and in Parowan, where Marci was born. The title business transferred them to Panguitch, where Creta “Dawn” and their only son Coty B were born. Coty was deemed the “spoiled” one for a while. While working at the title company, Dad ventured into training racehorses with his dear friend, Paul Partridge. Dad loved racing horses and met many dear friends. We spent entire summers going from town to town in Southern Utah watching horse races and spending time with our “racing” families.
In 1978, Dad decided to try something new, so we picked up and moved to Mom’s hometown of Hinckley and bought Grandpa Cluff’s trucking business. While living there, his real favorite was born, Ginger or “Ginny Sue”. Learning that the trucking business wasn’t too lucrative, and wanting to be back in the title business, we picked up and moved back to Fillmore where they lived for the next 16 years, and Mom and Dad owned their own title insurance business for a few years.
We enjoyed the outdoors with Dad and Mom. Weekends were spent hunting, fishing and boating. Dad enjoyed having a beautiful yard and garden and would spend hours in it. He and Mom also enjoyed canning veggies and fruit from his garden. In 1998, dad and mom were sent to Ephraim, to start up a new title business for the title company he was working for. They had great success there and within a couple of years, they were the number “1” title company in Sanpete County. They absolutely loved Ephraim and said they would move back there in a heartbeat.
In 2006, they were transferred to Cedar City/Enoch area where he spent the remainder of his years. In 2008, Dad had a stroke that ended his career and was forced to medically retire. The stroke was very hard on him, but he made the best of it, by raising another beautiful garden. Later, Mom and Dad were able to buy a 2nd home in Yuma and spend time off and on there with Mom’s sisters.
As Dads health declined his love of horse racing extended to watching hours and hours of horse racing on TV and spending lots of time with Mom.
Gary is survived by his eternal companion Marcia, Enoch, UT; Marci Lee (Rick) Aurora, UT; Creta Dawn (Dan), Fillmore, UT; Coty B.
