George William Lee obituary

Affectionately known as “G”, George was born in a humble home on May 1st, 1942, in Vernal Utah, to loving parents Marie C & Glen Lee.

He was a beloved father, husband, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and dearest friend. After battling heart and kidney failures for over two years, George left this mortal life peacefully the morning of December 27th, 2024 in his home in Fairview, Utah. He was wrapped in the arms of his loving wife, Zola Elaine Robinson Lee.

He was a loving and devoted husband who adored his wife and eight children Todd Paul (Sarah), Craig Howard (Kevin), Lisa Marie (Robert Avei), Tara Elizabeth (Casey Carlson- decd), Jason Robb (Lisa), Autumn Amber (Jake Ferguson), Gabriel Adam (Carrie), Tyler Lane (Ashlee).

George spent his entire childhood fishing in Ashley Creek, hunting and exploring the foothills around the Uintah Mountains, near his home in Vernal. His home life was competitive with five brothers: Dennis Lee (Decd), Arthur (Theda) Lee- Denver Co. Morgan Lee (Vernal, Utah), Larry Lee (Decd), Dale Lee (Decd).

As a young lad George worked for many neighbors pulling weeds and tilling flowerbeds; he learned to love beautiful yards. He also excelled in art, painting many wildlife pictures which he sold at times for extra money.

George discovered his running abilities in seventh grade by taking second place in the 100-yard-dash wearing his old worn-out, oversized, hand-me-down cowboy boots. (He wore them because he didn’t want anyone to see the holes in his worn-out socks.) After that he found his first true love: SPORTS. His talent and passion led to George receiving a football scholarship to Utah State University after high school. Though he went to play football, his major was landscape architecture. His immaculate yard has always been proof of that!

In the summer of 1965 George owned a SuperSport 365 Chevy. He drove this into the A&W Root Beer stand where 16-year-old Elaine served him as a car-hop. She immediately caught his attention and he quickly stole her heart. They were married on April 30th of 1966, and in May of the next year they started their family of eight. On April 19th, 1968, they were sealed in the Salt Lake temple. It was Elaine’s dream to have a big family and George always worked as hard as he could to provide for them all, so Elaine could be a stay-at-home mom. He loved every single one of his children with all his heart and was as supportive of a husband as any woman could ask for. They loved hard, they also fought hard, but they knew how to make up and that made all the difference.

When the Army rejected George to go to Vietnam, his wonderful brother Art gave him a job, and this started his lifelong career in cable television. One opportunity led to another and in 1981 George was blessed to be part owner of his first CATV company in the south/central Utah area. He ended his career in 2021 after working 17 years, feeling blessed by working for Branch and Eddie Cox.

George found that he was talented at coaching football. He loved the game, and he loved the kids. His coaching career stretched for over 49 years! In 1975 he began coaching football in Denver, then SLC, and in 1986 he was instrumental in starting the Central Utah Little League Football Association which is still in activity today. It has been George’s pleasure to work with thousands of young men over the years in this community; to teach them the game of football, but more importantly help them become great men. Many of these boys lived with George and Elaine for days, weeks and even years. And they loved them all like sons. Dozens of players, coaches, and referees became life-long friends. George has been blessed by their phone calls, texts, and visits to his home over the years and especially over the past few weeks. It has meant a great deal to him and his wife. George would say to each one of them, “I love you. I want you to carry-on and always try to pass on some good.”  LIFE IS SHORT. BE HAPPY!
