2/18/1932 ~ 8/28/2019
Georgia R. Monroe, 87 of Ophir, Ut, passed away August 28, 2019 in Levan, Utah. Born February 18, 1932 to George A. & Rose Johnson Jorgensen in Ophir, Utah. Married Mervin J. Russell January 17, 1972 he passed away October 29, 1985. She then married Dix L. Monroe of Scipio, Utah on February 15, 1992. Their marriage was solemnized September 3, 1993 in the Manti Temple. Dix passed away June 17, 2007.
Georgia graduated from Tooele High School. She worked as a secretary at the Deseret Chemical Depot for 30 years. She served as Mayor for the town of Ophir for 12 years. She worked very hard her whole life and was a life time rancher on her J Bar Ranch near Ophir, and helping Dix with Monore Bros. Ranch in Scipio.
Georgia loved animals, the mountains and all of God simple creations. She especially loved a newborn calf, the color of autumn leaves, the smell of sage brush, and a Hereford bull, the most handsome thing on earth. She preferred being outside tending to her land and animals over being in the house any day. Her favorite past times were holding her pet, decorating for holidays, and building fires, if not for warmth for the company and smell.
Georgia had a very magnetic and colorful personality and made friends out of nearly everyone she met. She was a very generous person to those closest to her. She was a very strong willed person, determined to survived under any circumstance and truly endured to the end.
Georgia is very grateful to all those who have helped her in any way over the years. She is especially thankful to all those that have taken care of her animals and her ranch in Ophir, where her heart will always be.
The family wishes to thank all of Georgia’s healthcare providers, especially the staff at the Victorian House for making her home away from home a special experience.
Georgia is survived by many who considered her their grandmother, mother, sister, and aunt but most of all a very dear friend. Preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Mervin and Dix.
