James Dan “Jim” Burton passed away January 16, 2024. Jim was born in Mt. Pleasant, Utah on October 31, 1941, to Carol Augusta Jones and Abram Jarold Burton. Jim's only surviving sibling is his older brother Jarold, his sister Karen Kay and David Bruce Burton have also passed.
Jim grew up in Mt Pleasant, working with his dad on their farm, and herded sheep in the summers for various sheep men. He graduated from North Sanpete High School, and attended Snow College in Ephraim, Utah. Jim Joined the US Navy with his best friend Charles Roe Olsen they both served their country honorably in the Vietnam War.
After returning home Jim found work in the local Coal mines, namely Deer Creek and ending up retiring from Valley Camp Coal as a Certified Electrician. He worked for a time as an electrician for Mt. Pleasant City.
Jim loved his local mountains and was an avid hunter and fisherman. As a young boy Jim spent as much time as possible fishing the Sanpitch, and the Mill Stream just south of Fairview. He hunted rabbits with his pal Charlie Olsen in the sage East of town. Jim had many friends. In the 50's and early 60's you could find him and all his pals dragin State Street, just bumming around.
Jim married Donna Samons and their marriage was blessed with two beautiful Children, Amy (Gonzales), Florida, and Jimmy, Washington State. Amy gave Jim two wonderful little Granddaughters, Alyson and Shelby, who he loved so much. Sadly, the family separated, and Jim went on with his life.
The Family and friends want to give special thanks to Jeanie Brathwaite for the love and devotion she has given Jim as his caregiver over the past 7 or so years.
Family and Friends will hold a graveside service in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with Military honors on Saturday July 27, 2024, at 10 AM.
