James Rolph Edwards, "Jim" passed away peacefully, October 6th, 2024 in Salem, UT. Jim was born April 26, 1944 in Albany, CA to Virgil J and Delva Whitehead Neeley Edwards.
Jim and Marilyn met at church in Salt Lake City. He was assigned to be her home teacher.
Love blossomed, and on June 12, 1971, they were sealed in the Manti Temple for time and all eternity.
Marilyn and Jim were blessed with a son, James Virgil Edwards, who passed away shortly after birth.
During a 4-year stint in the army, Jim excelled as a gunner and trained other soldiers. He received a black belt in jujitsu.
Jim obtained a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. While attending BYU he managed the Judo club, it was a sport he played and really enjoyed. He also attended the University of Utah and received a PhD in economics in 1983. After completing his doctorate degree, he was invited to teach at Hillsdale College in Michigan, where he taught for several years. Marilyn and Jim then moved to Havre, Montana, where Jim became a professor at Montana State University. He was an esteemed professor and remained for over 35 years.
Jim's wife, Marilyn, had health complications and was homebound for many years. Jim tenderly cared for her in their Montana home. They moved to Beehive Homes, a Care facility, in Salem, UT. They lived together in Salem a short time then Marilyn passed away. He was happy there.
We will miss him, his wisdom, knowledge and enthusiasm.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marilyn; his son, James Rolph Edwards Junior; and his parents, Virgil and Delva Edwards. He is survived by his brother Delbert Edwards and sister Aleta Robinson.
