5/7/1939 ~ 5/12/2023
James Kenneth Day, devoted husband, father and grandfather, and pillar of the Fillmore, Utah community, passed away May 12, 2023, in Springville, UT at the age of 84.
Ken was born in Fillmore May 7, 1939, the second son to Cummings James Day and Wanda Carling. He attended Millard High School, graduating in 1957. On May 26, 1958, he married Annette Nichol Day in the Salt Lake Temple, and they remained devoted to each other for 65 years.
His family always came first. Ken never missed a ball game or school events if his sons or grandchildren were participating. Ken was also deeply involved in his community, serving as a city councilman, a Millard High School booster, the president of East Millard Little League and he served for over a decade on the Millard County IHC hospital board.
As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Ken served in various capacities including, Bishop, Elders Quorum President, a member of the High Council, and as an ordinance worker at the Manti Temple.
He was a successful businessman who started working in his father’s service station at the age of 8 keeping the pop machine full, and he continued to work in the business, first on Main Street and then off the North Freeway exit along I-15. There, he was well-known for his reputation for welcoming his customers with a smile and Ken’s famous fried chicken and potato logs. Ken was a hard worker who gave his heart and soul to the service industry. He was not afraid to roll up his sleeves and use his ingenuity solving problems. His kind manner left an impression on travelers along I-15, many of whom made a point to visit his station.
He was a mentor to many with a great sense of humor which made him well-loved by all who knew him. Those who knew him best will remember his caring and gentle demeanor and his soft spot for a mug full of Diet Dr. Pepper, which he was known to carry with him.
Ken’s legacy of being committed, hardworking, and having a compassionate heart, has generously been passed down to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Fillmore was more than just a birthplace to Ken; it was a part of who he was.
That unwavering love shone through, as some of his last words were a poignant request to be taken home to the town he cherished so dearly.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Annette; his sons, Ron Kenneth Day (Beverly), Jan Ramon Day (Tina), and Jay Mark Day (Julie), along with 12 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren; his brothers Cloyd Cummings Day (Rayma), and Charles Weston Day (Lee). He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Wendall Elmer Day (Darcia).
The funeral services will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023 at the Fillmore 4th Ward LDS chapel, 290 East 500 South, Fillmore, Utah with a viewing from 9:30-1030 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. A Sunday night viewing will also be held on May 21 from 5-7 p.m. at the same location.
