Janice Bagley Nelson

Our beloved Mother, Nana, sister and friend Janice Bagley Nelson, age 71 of Moroni, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2023 after a courageous three year battle with esophageal, pancreatic and brain cancer. She was a pillar of our community and the rock in our family. We all refer to her as Nana. Despite all the suffering she had to go through you would never know. She didn’t chase storms but she calmed the storm by having her heart set firmly on Jesus Christ and lived by His perfect example.

Janice was born on August 8, 1951 in Fort Collins, Colorado to Royal Anderson Bagley and Iris Mary Ellen Goodwin Bagley. She was the 4th of seven children.

Janice graduated from North Sanpete High School in 1969. She was also a graduate of Snow College and received a bachelor’s degree in Childhood Development from Utah State University. During this time Janice met and married her sweetheart Kay Lamar Nelson on August 4, 1972 in the Manti LDS temple. Kay and Janice made their home in the wonderful community of Moroni where they raised their five children. They celebrated over 50 years together.

Janice worked for the State of Utah for over 30 years in several different capacities, ending her career on the nursing home team for the Department of Health. She was admired by all those she worked with and formed special friendships with several of her colleagues.

She was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she loved her Savior and enjoyed studying the Gospel. She was always willing to serve and accept a call. To us, she was the best mom and grandma in the world. Janice knew what was important in life: her family and friends. She understood the designs and purposes of God. She lived with grace, dignity and an abundance of patience. We are grateful for her example of perseverance and her fighting spirit. Janice was a woman of quiet strength and selflessness who spent her life serving and taking care of others. She had the ability to make everyone she came in contact with feel special and important.Janice could be seen just about anywhere she went with her yarn and crochet hooks and knitting needles. Many in the community have received gifts of her handmade dish cloths and hot pads. She enjoyed going on long rides with her husband-she got to know the sights of Utah very well. She loved going to lunch and crafting with many of her dear friends. She loved a good book and loved learning. She made the best cinnamon rolls and chocolate cake. Most of her time was spent supporting her kids and grandkids in all aspects of their lives. Her mantra was “Happiness is a choice, and I choose to be happy”.

She is survived by her husband Kay Larmar Nelson, children JanaKaye Smith, Paul Warren Nelson (Jessi), Angela Ison (Dan), Jacob Hyrum Nelson (Joanna), Royal Isaac Nelson (Amy),
23 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Her siblings Laura Blackham (Leonard), Bruce Bagley (Bonnie), Lynn Bagley (Marilyn), Darrel Bagley (Lori), Nathaniel “Bobby” Bowman (Shirley), and sister-in-law Jenna Bagley. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Roger Bagley, her sister Beth June Bagley McArthur and granddaughter Karlie Ison.

Funeral Services for Janice will be held at 11:00 am, on Saturday January 21, 2023, at the Moroni LDS Stake Center. Viewings will be held at the same location Friday evening from 6:oo
p.m. to 8:oo p.m. and Saturday from 9-10:30 prior to services Her interment will be held in
the Moroni City Cemetery following funeral services.
