Jay Arnold Carter, 74 of Moroni, Utah passed away peacefully July 11, 2023 while surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer. Jay, (or Arnold to family and close friends), was born on November 22, 1948, in Provo Utah to Floyd and Margaret Carter. When Jay was 10 years old the family relocated to Chester, Utah where Jay was raised. After completing High School, Jay enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. After serving out his Army enlistment, he returned to Sanpete where he settled and never left.
In 1971 he met and married the love of his life Mary Beth Jones, they were married nearly 52 years and had seven children together. Their Marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple in 1980.
Jay’s life was a life defined by service and selflessness. He served his country, his community, his friends and family faithfully, always putting others first and himself second. In addition to his active-duty service in the U.S. Army, Jay served in the Utah National Guard and was deployed to Germany during Desert Shield/Desert Storm in 1991. He served as a leader and mentor to many young men during his time in the Guard and retired in 2002 after 29 years of service. Jay was active in the American Legion for several years and served as Commander of Post 107 at the time of his death. He was a strong advocate and did his best to ensure Veterans received the honors they so rightfully deserved. He also served the community as a Fire Fighter and Cub Scout Leader and Cub Scout Master.
Jay held many jobs throughout his life that included Dairy Farmer, Truck Driver, Home Builder, Mechanic to name a few. He worked the majority yf his career at Nephi Rubber Products in Nephi Utah where he retired as the Maintenance Supervisor after 25 years in 2011. Above all Jay was known by family and friends as the guy who could work on and fix just about anything.
Jay loved to hunt and fish and spend time in the mountains. He especially loved camping with his family up Fairview Canyon and spending time with his many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jay is survived by Mary, his wife of 51 years, Their children Greg (Theresa) Carter, Shelby (Randie) Carter, Jaeleen (Bob) Jensen, Glen (Melissa) Carter, Jacob Carter, Brian (Raquel) Carter and Joseph (Shannon) Carter. There are 15 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren, (with an eleventh expected soon). He is also survived by a brother, Wayne Carter and a sister, Margaret (Darrell) Harward.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Margaret, brothers Floyd and Steve and sisters Elaine and Rose.
Funeral Services will be held at the Moroni Stake Center on Monday 17 July 2023 at 11:00 A.M. A viewing will be held at the same location from 09:30 A.M. to 10:45 A.M., the morning of the service. Burial will be in the Moroni Cemetery.
