Jerald Mac Fugal

November 1, 1943 — May 30, 2022

11/1/1943 ~ 5/30/2022

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, educator, and friend, Jerald Mac Fugal passed away on 30 May 2022, at the age of 78.
Mac was born on 1 November 1943 in American Fork, Utah, to Maxine Robinson and Jean Aldous Fugal. He graduated from Pleasant Grove High School, where he excelled in Future Farmers of America. As a member of the Dairy Cattle Judging Team, he won several state competitions and competed on a national level. Mac served a 2½ year mission in Argentina for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS).
After his mission, Mac attended Brigham Young University (BYU), majoring in history and Spanish. There, he met Patsy Jean Allred. They married in the Salt Lake Temple 29 July 1966.
After earning a bachelor’s degree from BYU, Mac served four years active duty in Army Intelligence. The Vietnam War stationed Mac (and his growing family) at Ft. Mead, Md.; Santa Rosa, Calif.; Bangkok, Thailand; and Ft. Hood, Texas. His completed military service and G.I. benefits helped Mac earn his teaching certificate and MBA. For 31 years, he taught every grade from 2nd to 5th in the Jordan School District—but 4th grade was his favorite. Because he loved teaching, he continued to substitute teach another 13 years after his “official” retirement in 2004.
Mac passed away on Memorial Day, which was fitting. He loved his family, his country, all music, and the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He served faithfully in many leadership and teaching positions within the Church. He had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ and enjoyed teaching Gospel Doctrine. Mac loved music and had a strong bass voice. Singing filled Mac’s home, from family musical numbers to Mac singing “Let Us Oft Speak Kind Words” when the kids argued. When that didn’t work, he and Pat would escape to the Uintas and go camping; they went camping a lot.
Mac is dearly loved and will be missed by his wife (Pat), children Mike (Rachael), Matt (Tammie), Jeri (Tim) Mellor, Laura (Damon) Bunting, Mark (Corinne), Eric (Jinsuk), Shayne (Angela) Durrant, and 21 grandchildren. Mac was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jean Paul, and sister Anne.
