Jerris Monroe Bennett

July 29, 1952 — March 15, 2020

7/29/1952 ~ 3/15/2020

Jerris Monroe Bennett passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on Sunday March 15, 2020 at the age of 67. Born July 29, 1952 to Neil O. and Edith (Memmott) Monroe. She grew up in Scipio, UT with her brother and two sisters. Some of her fondest memories were visiting with her grandparents or going on adventures with her siblings and cousins. Her family and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has always been the most important parts of her life. As a young girl she received a letter from the stake presidency commending her on her excellent church attendance record. After graduating from Millard High School, Jerris went on to receive her associate’s degree from the Utah Technical College of Provo. She worked in the sewing plant in Scipio throughout her teens. She was sealed to the love of her life, Melvin Jess Bennett, in the Manti temple on August 25, 1972. They welcomed their first daughter later the next year. Through the years, they had many adventures and moves, adding to the family along the way. They settled in Nephi, UT for a while where Jerris worked as a home health aide. She lovingly cared for those who could no longer take care of themselves. Jerris was always serving others no matter where life had taken her. She led by example making sure new mothers had meals and was a friend to the friendless. Jerris cherished her children and grandchildren. She alway made sure that her children’s friends knew that they had a safe place in her home and she loved them. She strived to live a Christ centered life in all she did serving in the primary and as a teacher in the relief society. After all their adventures, and with all their kids married, they finally settled back home in Holden, UT where their life together had started. Jerris is survived by her husband Melvin Jess Bennett, her mother-in-law Estell (Robison) Bennett, her brother Ray (Amy) Monroe, sisters Diana [Tucker(deceased)] Conley, Melanie [Jim(deceased)] Dolan, her children Chelsea (Travis) Begay, Jamie (Brandan) Beerli, Shelley (Brian) Masteller, Adam (Julie) Bennett, Katie (Alan) Rollins, Britney (Trevor) Morrison. And 14.5 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Neil O. and Edith (Memmott) Monroe, her father-in-law Jess Charles Bennett, and son Spencer (Kylee Bickerton) Bennett. Jerris’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses who lovingly cared for her and the countless individuals who have reached out to us to tell us how much they loved her, and for the many prayers. You have been an incredible source of strength to us during this time. Because of the ongoing health crisis and our concern not to risk the health of others, Jerris will be interred at the Holden Town cemetery following a private family service on Saturday March 28th. The service will be conducted by Rasmussen Mortuary. Online condolence at rasmussenmortuary.com
