Kathryn Louise (Nordquist) Butler

Kathryn Louise (Nordquist) Butler returned home to her Heavenly Father and her sweetheart on February 6, 2019 after a brief illness. She was born August 10, 1931 in Clyde, Kansas to Louis Theodore and Violet Hazel Nordquist and graduated high school there. She left to attend St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Kansas City, MO to begin her career as a Registered Nurse. Later, she moved to Grand Junction where she met her sweetie, Charles Lee Butler.

On July 4, 1953 she and “Chuck” eloped to Aztec, New Mexico and started their 60 year love story. They lived in Grand Junction for a while where their oldest son, Richard Lee, was born. They then moved to Chula Vista, CA. Kay continued her nursing career at the blood bank.

While in Chula Vista they welcomed their daughter Cherie Lynne into their family. Due to the love of some wonderful neighbors they were introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and joined in 1961.

Later, they moved to Fort Collins, CO where they would remain until 1994. Shortly after moving to Fort Collins their youngest son, Kent Leroy, was born.

Their marriage was made eternal and their three children were sealed to them in the Salt Lake Temple on April 2, 1965. This was a source of great joy to them.

During her nursing career in Fort Collins she was a well loved director of nursing at South Eventide, later known as Spring Creek Health Care Center. After more than 25 years and too many wonderful people to name, she passed the administrators test and was promoted to that role at Four Seasons Health Care Center. Several people from Spring Creek followed her to Four Seasons and together they started one of the first care units dedicated to care for Alzheimer’s Disease in the state of Colorado.

She retired in 1993 and shortly after that they moved to Fillmore UT. This provided her and Chuck the opportunity to serve as missionaries at Cove Fort. They loved the area and found that being close to their daughter was a joy.

They moved to Delta, UT in 2005 and were thankful for the all the love and friendships that were gained here.

More than anything else, she was kind, compassionate, and caring – everything you expect a caregiver to be. While nursing was her profession, it was more to her than that. Helping people in need, whether physical or emotional, was who she was. She was the glue that held her eternal family together. While her health in later years robbed her most of her strength, her faith in Jesus Christ never wavered and she looked forward with bright hope to the reunion with her beloved family and her darling husband. All that knew her loved and respected her and she will be profoundly missed.

She was welcomed home by her parents, younger brother James Leroy, her husband, and grandson Kevin Souter. She is survived by her three children – Richard (Jill) Butler of Fort Collins, CO, Cherie (Jim) Stanworth of Delta, UT and Kent (Kimberly) Butler of Phoenix, AZ, six grandchildren, and seven (soon to be eight) great grandchildren. Hugs and handshakes will be exchanged from 9:30 am to 10:45 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 222 West 200 North Delta, UT 84624. The memorial service will begin at 11:00 am. Internment in the Delta Cemetery under the care of Rasmussen Mortuary.
