Leonard Brooke Zahler

October 14, 1963 — September 10, 2024

Mount Pleasant

 Leonard Brooke Zahler:

Born October 14, 1963 in Salt Lake to Glen Mack and Elsie Marie Mathews Zahler. He passed away on September 10, 2024 from a long battle with heart disease.

He grew up in North Salt Lake in a farm like area and spent his time with animals and chores rather than sports. This is where he gained his love for animals and learned to work hard. This extended into his adult life where he was never without a dog or cat, and the occasional ferret or rat and he rarely missed a day of work for anything.

He attended and graduated from West High School.

He met Dave Perry at age 13 when they ran into each other while ditching PE class. They found they each had a love for cars and became life long best friends.

He married Cynthia Phipps and later divorced. He then married high school sweetheart Suzy Brown October 28, 2000.

He was known to most as Brooke, but later in life decided that too many girls had that name and so he began to go by his first name of Leonard when he moved to Mount Pleasant. While living in Salt Lake he worked for Motor Cargo and UPS. He didn’t want to leave the city but grudgingly did so to be with his wife in Mount Pleasant. He came to love the country life with its slower pace, less traffic, and close access to mountains as well as the ma and pa diners. He took a job with the local propane company delivering propane all over Sanpete County. He loved this job as it took him to see some of the most beautiful scenery. He would often post pictures on Facebook up in the mountains of “the view from my office” while out delivering to his customers. He said he never wanted to go back to the city.

He enjoyed his old rusty antiques, old cars, going to car shows, pedal biking around Salt Lake with his friends, camping, riding his ATV, anything Native American, and his dogs—oh, and hot sauce. He believed that hot sauce belonged on EVERYTHING. He initially thought that kids were not part of his life plan but as grandkids started to come along he enjoyed playing with them, watching movies/cartoons with them, or just sitting back and laughing at all of their shenanigans.

He is survived by his wife Suzy, his brother Aaron (Giovanna), his beloved fur baby Tiki, 8 grandchildren and several cousins, aunts, and uncles. He will be missed dearly by all of his family and friends.

There will be a Celebration of Life/Car Show in Spring City September 28, 2024 from 11:00-4:00 at 45 South 100 East. There will also be a celebration of life in Salt Lake on September 29 with the time and place yet to be determined.
