Fairview, UT; Lorraine Hansen, age 101, passed away on August 17, 2019 at the Quality Living Care facility in Missouri City, TX. Lorraine was born on May 7, 1918 in Fairview, UT, the daughter of Newel and Olea Day Cox. She grew up in Fairview and graduated from Fairview High School. She later attended Snow College.
She married Rex Stewart Hansen, originally from Milburn, UT, on June 1, 1940. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on June 23, 1953. After their marriage, Rex was called into the army during WWII. Lorraine and son McKay returned to Fairview to live with her parents for 3 years until Rex returned from serving in the Philippines. After the war, Rex and Lorraine moved to Salt Lake City where he worked as a salesman in the beauty supply business. Lorraine kept busy raising her three active sons and beautifying her backyard rose garden. She also belonged to a Bridge Club and a Canasta Club in Salt Lake City. Over the years, Lorraine was active in her church, serving in positions including Primary secretary.
In 1956, they moved to San Antonio for 4 years and on to Houston in 1960. Some of her favorite activities there included going to dinner at a nice restaurant in the Houston ship channel and attending plays at the Alley Theater. She loved hearing about her grandchildren and their accomplishments and activities.
In her later years, she worked for her son, Dr. Bennett Hansen, in his dental office until she retired in her 90s. In the summers, he took her to Fairview to be close to her family. She loved spending time sitting on the front porch of the family home and reminiscing with her siblings and old friends. For the last few years, her son Bennett has devoted his life to lovingly caring for Lorraine in his home. She loved to sit on the backyard porch and watch him feed the deer and the ducks. His daughter, Marlaina, also spent special time caring for her grandmother Lorraine. They had a very special bonding.
