Mary Verlene Casey Blackner

November 14, 1944 — November 6, 2024

Hyrum

Mary Verlene Casey Blackner passed away peacefully in Hyrum, Utah on November 6, 2024 at the age of 79. Mary was born November 14,1944 in Salt Lake City to Arthur John and Marie Dalton Casey.

She attended school in Salt Lake County as well as Cokeville, Wyoming after moving there in 1950. She carried fond memories of her time in Cokeville and would often reminisce about her formative years there with her parents and siblings.

She married Melvin Douglas Blackner “Doug” in 1963 and later divorced. They had two children, Casey “Scott” Blackner and Vava Ann Blackner Roy. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the absolute joy of her life.

Mary made her career at and retired with K-Mart, working in the Murray and Sandy locations. She made life-long friends during her time there. Her children have memories of getting the bulk of their school clothes from K-mart "blue- light specials”.

Mary survived breast cancer and was later diagnosed with macular degeneration. After that diagnosis in 2012, Mary moved from Murray and lived with her son for the next 5 years in Hyrum, Utah. She then moved to Blacksmith Fork Assisted Living Center in Hyrum in 2017.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, her brother John Allen Casey, sister Loa Casey, other beloved friends, family, and pets.

Mary is survived by her children, Scott (Monica) Blackner of Pleasantview, Idaho and Vava (Tom) Roy from Parowan, Utah. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Joel (Shelby) Blackner and their children Charlie and Jack of Malad, Idaho, Garrett (Mikya) Blackner of Ogden, Utah, and Reilly (Chelsea) Bess of Parowan, Utah.

The family would like to express deep and heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Blacksmith Fork and Doctor Bradley Chambers of Logan Regional Hospital for the exceptional love and care you gave to our mom and our family. Additional thanks to Rasmussen Mortuary (Jeff and Patricia Rasmussen) in Mount Pleasant/Fillmore, Utah.

Per our mothers request, no services will be held at this time. The family is planning a “celebration of life” in the spring in the Salt Lake area. Family will post on their social media accounts and let family members and friends know when that will be.

Our Mom will be missed and loved with heavy hearts but we are grateful to know she is free of health challenges and for the knowledge of eternal families. Online condolences at rasmussenmortuary.com
