Mary Kay Mickelsen

Mary Kathryn Mickelsen was born November 17, 1938 to Katherine and Alma C Burgoyne. She grew up in the lower avenues of Salt Lake City where she graduated from West High School. She loved working summers in Yellowstone National Park while attending Utah State University. She graduated from USU with a BS degree in Human Nutrition. While attending USU she met and subsequently married Mark William Christensen. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on September 8, 1961. They settled in Moroni UT where Mark worked for Moroni Feed Co. and raised turkeys. They were parents to 5 children born in Moroni. Kent, Dix, Rex, Carol and Kyle Christensen.


On April 11,1978 Mark (husband) and Dix (son) died in a drowning accident in Wales Reservoir, Mary Kay continued the family business raising turkeys with her remaining children after her husbands death. On June 27, 1989 she married Vaun D Mickelsen in Manti UT. He brought with him from a previous marriage four grown children and their families. These are Lance, Leah, Lynette and Larry. Together, Vaun and Mary Kay served missions to Perth (1994) and to Brisbane (2001). They also served as ordinance workers in the Manti Temple for many years. Mary Kay had a deep faith in God and his goodness, hope and mercy to all people. She extended this goodness hope and mercy by caring for people, both known and unknown to her.


She is survived by her husband Vaun D. Mickelsen, Children Kent (Tammy), Rex (JoAnne), Carol (James) Stewart and Kyle (Shannon) and by stepchildren Lance, Leah (Tim) Black, Lynette, and Larry (Diana), 40 grandchildren and 64 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents Alma C. Burgoyne and Katherine Burgoyne, Brothers Paul C. Burgoyne and John Burgoyne, Husband Mark William Christensen, Son Alma Dix Christensen, Grandson Slate Mickelsen and Great Granddaughter Kyra Ann Carter. Viewing will be held October 3 5-7 pm at Manti North Stake Center. Family visitation October 4, at 10:30 - 11;00 AM with Funeral services at 11:00 AM in Manti North Stake Center. Burial will be in the Moroni City Cemetery following services.
