Melba Smith

February 24, 1927 — July 20, 2024

Melba Lillie Smith, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away in her home in Riverton, Utah, on July 20, 2024, at the age of 97. Melba was born on February 24, 1927, in Wallsburg, Utah, to David and Alice Givens. She was one of eight children, all of whom preceded her in death. Growing up and into adulthood, Melba cherished the time spent with her dear older sister, Wella.

Melba's life was marked by resilience and hardwork. She was married twice and had six wonderful children, Beth Lucas, Dixie Taylor (deceased), Darrell T. (Sherry) Lucas, Pat Nutall (deceased), Dick W. Lucas (deceased), and Tena (Greg) Andersen, before she met the love of her life, George Jack Smith. Melba and Jack were married on January 11, 1969, in Las Vegas, Nevada. They shared a beautiful life together filled with joy and adventure. They especially enjoyed fishing, jeeping through the great outdoors, and camping with the Smith brothers and their wives.

Melba had a passion for crocheting, and she made it her mission to ensure each of her children had a special handcrafted piece from her. One of her proudest moments was when her sister Wella secretly entered one of Melba's crocheted doilies in the state fair, where it won a blue ribbon.

For 26 years, Melba and Jack resided in Fountain Green, Utah, where they built a loving home and made countless memories. Melba moved to Riverton, Utah in 2022. Her goal was to live to be 100 years old, and she often spoke of her dream to hike to the Timpanogos Caves on that milestone birthday.

Melba's legacy of love, creativity, and perseverance will be cherished by her family and friends. She is survived by three of her children, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and even great-great-grandchildren.
