Monte Barton Pilling (Barton Monte Pilling) beloved husband, father, grandpa, grandpa great, brother, uncle and friend to all, as well as, the beloved “Ice Cream Man” to Ephraim and Manti, and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, held many callings over the years.
Mont was born in Price, Utah to Lynn and Ella Vione Olsen Pilling on April 9, 1954. He graduated from Carbon High School in Price, Utah in May 1972, and from Utah Technical College of Provo in 1973 with a degree in carpentry. Shortly after, he completed a full remodel on his parents home.
He married the love of his life Bonnie Jean Noyes on May 25, 1974. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on May 25, 1994, on their 20th wedding anniversary. Monte started working for the power company in February 1975 and retired after 35 years of dedicated service. He has worked for Snow College for the past six years.
Monte and Bonnie found their dream home in Ephraim, Utah 16 years ago and since then its been a labor of love restoring the 1886 home back to its original beauty and finishing the parts that weren’t complete.
Mont is survived by his wife of 44 ½ years, Bonnie Jean Noyes Pilling, his 4 children Monte (Emily) Pilling of Helper, Utah; Steve (Joslyn) Pilling of Salt Lake City, Utah; Bryan Pilling of Henderson, Nevada; and Angela (Brad) Murray of Ephraim, Utah; 12 grandchildren, Walker, Connor, Brandon, Hudson, Paxton, Taylor, Payton, Jacob, Aniston, Adalyn, Logan, Katelyn, and their great grandson Soren; 2 sisters Lynda Thomas of Salt Lake City and Marilyn Petrie of Washington; sisters-in-law Jane (Dave) Moon, Payson; Merlena (Blain) Blackburn, Fairview; brother-in-law Tim (Vicki) Noyes, Price; close friend and adopted daughter Amy Strate; and lots of nieces and nephews that adored him.
Mont was always willing to help anyone with anything and would drive to the ends of the earth if need be. He would greet them with a smile and a hug when he got there. He was said to be ½ man, ½ machine, a true saint, and a legend to all who had the pleasure to meet him!
Mont is preceded in death by his parents Lynn and Vione Pilling; parents-in-law, Fred and Ada Noyes; his brother Gary Lynn Pilling , and lots of uncles, aunts, friends, and school mates who will meet him with loving arms. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 28 at 11:00 a.m. in the Ephraim 6th ward LDS church (450 N 200 W) with a viewing Thursday, September 27 from 6-8:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to services both at the church.
