Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Raymond Austin Hindes, of Mount Pleasant, passed away on March 29, 2023 at the Sunshine Terrace Foundation in Logan, Utah after the long goodbye of Alzheimer’s Disease. He was 86 years of age.
Ray was born on May 14, 1936 to Kenneth Clifford Hindes and Virginia Ada Raymond in Muskegon, Michigan. Ray graduated from Fremont High School in 1954 where he lettered in Track. He went on to study at Michigan State University and Davenport Institute.
While attending college, he decided to join the US Air Force in 1956. In 1957, he successfully completed Russian Linguist School in Monterey California and was ordered to Wiesbaden, Germany. He was Honorably discharged in 1962.
On July 23, 1958, Ray married Inge Lora Kehl at Darmstadt, Germany. Ray and Inge went on to have 2 children, Claudia Virginia Hindes Scutt and Andreas Kenneth Hindes.
On June 22, 1968, Ray married Sandra Lee May Parks at East Lansing Michigan. Ray adopted Sandra’s two children, Brenda Lee (Hindes) Lowery and Lyle Arthur Hindes. They were sealed March 21, 1970 in the Mesa Arizona Temple.
On August 1, 1986, Ray was sealed to Trudy Anne Bolin at the Mesa Arizona Temple. They’ve been married for over 38 years.
Ray was a High Priest of The Church of Latter Day Saints. During his life, Ray was also a member of 4H, Boy Scouts of America, and a Freemason. Ray was an amateur radio operator and a master craftsman in finished carpentry. Some of the projects he made were a canoe, pioneer handcart, benches, cutting boards, walking sticks, and cabinets.
Ray loved to read and camp. He liked to paddle the canoe while Trudy fished (He didn’t like fishing). Ray and Trudy had a dune buggy in Ivins, but when it broke down and stranded them in the high desert, he sold it.
Ray was predeceased by Clifford Kenneth Hindes (Father), Virginia Ada (Raymond) Hindes (Mother), Inge Lora Kehl Hindes (Wife), Sandra Lee May Parks Hindes (Wife), Lorna Hindes (Wife). Marilyn Joan Hindes Cox (Sister). He is survived by Trudy Anne Bolin Hindes (wife), Claudia Virginia Hindes Scutt (daughter), Andreas Kenneth Hindes (son), Brenda Lee Hindes Lowery (daughter), Lyle Arthur Hindes (Son). He has 19 grandchildren, over 28 great-grandchildren, 5 stepchildren, 16 step grandchildren, and 26 step great-grandchildren.
Viewing will be held at 6:00-8:00 PM April 7, 2023 at the Rasmussen Mortuary in Mount Pleasant. Services will be held at Fairview Rock Church (131 E 100 N) on April 8, 2023 at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, an organization Ray felt strongly about.
The recorded services will be available for 60 days for date of service.
