Robert F. Decker (79) of Spring City, Utah passed on October 14, 2023 from a long battle with cancer. For a man with a deep love of astronomy, the day of a solar eclipse (Ring of Fire) was the perfect send off.
Bob was born on October 6, 1944 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Edwin and Mary Veloise Decker. He was a highly sought after radiological engineer/consultant. He worked closely with nuclear power plants across the country, including Three Mile Island, Maine Yankee and Humboldt Bay, writing up environmental impact statements as well as advising on safely decommissioning aging power plants.
When Bob wasn't working, he enjoyed hunting in Maple Canyon and Spring City Canyon as well as fishing at Strate’s pond.
Bob is survived by a large blended family; his wife Majorie, of 48 years, daughter DeAnna Gundry, of Mt Pleasant, Utah, son Robert Decker and wife Lisa, of Windham, Maine, and daughter Danna Lowe and husband Ken, of Spring City, Utah, 8 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
