Our, Daddy, Son, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, Nephew, Husband, and Best Friend finished his 16 year battle with brain cancer early last Sunday morning surrounded by loving family in his own home in Mt. Pleasant, Utah.

Robert was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Candy Hunter and Craig Wetzel on April 13, 1977. He loved his childhood and proudly spoke of the places he had lived, including with his grandparents. He always spoke fondly of growing up with his brothers, Cory Hunter, Casey Hunter, Curtis Hunter, and Jeff Hunter as well as time spent with his step-father, David Hunter and his skydiving friends. Robert was a bit of a wild teen and certainly not an easy one to raise. However, later in life he learned to appreciate the efforts of Dave’s discipline that he once misunderstood. He enjoyed very much his time spent on the golf course making connections that were late coming, but heart felt.

Similar late, but incredibly heart felt connections have been a passion for him with his father Craig Wetzel and brothers Tyler Wetzel and Jared Wetzel. He has recently spent many days on the beach at Bear Lake passing his love of the water on to his children. Robert has always loved the water and was quite a talented swimmer from an early age.

Robert was a talented guitar player with a passion for any instrument really. He was his absolute happiest in service of others. He loved silliness and laughter. He had a passion for beer, guns, politics, and brownies. He had a quiet and respectful love for animals of any kind, even if they did chase him down the road.

Robert was married to JaNell Kunz on September 2, 2005 in Taylorsville, Utah where they started their first home together. They have 2 children of their own, Robert “Ty” Wetzel, and Samantha Lynn Wetzel. They also legally adopted JaNell’s sister Viona Justyne Kunz when she was sixteen. He claimed her as a daughter and loved her dearly. He grew to love all of his nieces and nephews and though he wouldn’t likely say it out loud, very much loved to spend time with them and see them happy.

Robert graduated from Lehi High School in 1995 and attended ITT Technical Institute years later where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Engineering. He worked as an electrical engineer for several years, but always had a passion for construction/carpentry and eventually returned to it. He was a master of the trade and spent the last 5 years of his life renovating their Mt. Pleasant home with the help of both kids, several nephews, and his best friend and favorite co-worker, his brother-in-law, Heath Kunz.

Services will be held on Monday, November 30, 2020, at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. 800 S State Street (Access from Hawk Blvd). A viewing will be held from 10:00-10:45 AM, followed by a family prayer. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM immediately following the family prayer.

It is Robert’s wishes that everyone come to his service (that he didn’t want) casual and comfortable. Please feel free to wear jeans and a Metallica (or 80s rock) tee shirt if you have one. Dress warm as all of the service will be outside.

A special thank you to Lorisa Prescott and Irene Allred. The love, kindness, discretion and compassion you showed while caring for his needs in his last few days was beyond amazing. Thank you both~
