Steven W Riding “Spity”

Steven W Riding “Spity” passed peacefully on June 6, 2021, from health complications. He was born July 20, 1953, in Delta Utah to Kennard and Marjorie Riding. He was the third child of ten children.

Steve was an amazing mechanic and enjoyed helping others. He enjoyed many years of drag racing. Steve was part of the Delta City volunteer fire department for many years. When we heard the calls, we knew the big orange truck would fire up and off he would go. He had many great memories of those times with his race car. He was so happy when he spoke about his racing days. He won the first Demolition Derby in Delta. He drove for a few years as well as assisting others with their cars. We shared times of camping, and fishing. He loved to listen to all types of music.

Steve graduated from Delta High School. He went to school for Auto Mechanics at Provo College where he excelled in those classes. He moved back to Delta to work for his parents at Riding Ford. Later he opened his own shop, Spity’s Uptown Auto. He continued to work on vehicles even after working for IPP for nine years. Steve worked as a mechanic until his health did not permit it anymore.

Steve has two children, Kelsey (Dave) Fischer and Chandler (Kara) Riding with MaryLynn Parkin. He married Lynda Ross and was a dad to her children. He loved the girls like his own. Shaunna Maxfield, Robyn Ross, and Cheryl Nielson. They later divorced. Steve married Candice Gifford in 1988. Although they did not live together, they remained friends.

A service is being held June 26, 2021 at 3:00 pm at the Stake Center (125 White Sage Ave) in Delta, UT. We will have a small visiting time prior to the service. In lieu of flowers we have set up an account at Zion’s Bank in his name. We would like to thank the community, family, and friends who have been part of his life.

He is survived by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His siblings Alan (Sheridan) Riding, Lauralee (Kayle) Dutson, Camille (Shane) Rowley, Marcia (Karl) Mechan, Dana (Ted) Rempp, Neal (Trish) Riding, Jillyn (Hank) Jansen, Stace (Autumn) Riding.
