Vernon Joe Christensen

Vernon Joe Christensen, age 89, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2018 from natural causes surrounded by his children. He was born May 5, 1928 in Kanosh, Utah to Charles Emery Christensen and Freda George Christensen. He was the fourth of five children. He graduated from Millard High School and faithfully served in the Central States Mission for the LDS Church. Vernon married his eternal companion, Alice Young on Dec. 21, 1951 in the Manti Temple. Together they had five children. Vernon served his church and community in many capacities including scoutmaster, district scout leader, earning his Silver Beaver award, Elders Quorums president, High Priest group leader, High Counselor, counselor to two bishops and as Kanosh Ward Bishop. Vernon and Alice served together as missionaries at Cove Fort, Utah. He served on the town council for two terms, the irrigation board and the hospital board. Vernon loved his family and taught them to love the Lord and serve each other. As a family, they enjoyed camping, hunting, ice fishing, horseback riding and work. Vernon’s hobbies were Dutch oven cooking and making crazy jars. He made his living first as a baker, then for UDOT where he became the Cove Fort maintenance foreman, then retired as a lineman and foreman for Flowell Electric. Vernon is preceded in death by his spouse Alice, his brother Virge (Beverly, deceased) and survived by his sisters Reveau Newby (Ward), Leah Robinson (Ralph, deceased), Arlene McNamar (Hugh, deceased) and his children; Cleve Christensen (Marjean), Ann Nielsen (Douglas), Thayne Christensen (Kimberlynn), Rayma Stohel (Randall) and Teresa Whitehouse (Russell). He has 27 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held in the Kanosh, Utah LDS Chapel on Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 12:00 noon. There will be a viewing in Kanosh Friday, March 16, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and the day of the funeral starting at 10:00 am at the church. Online condolence rasmussenmortuary.com
