Vernon Merlin Monroe

Vernon Merlin Monroe, 84, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend passed from this life surround by his family on the morning of Saturday, April 7, 2018.
Vernon was born in Scipio, Utah on November 25, 1933 to Merlin and Loraine Monroe, calling Scipio his home throughout his life. Vernon met Evelyn Sims of Marianna, Florida while serving in the US Navy. Vernon and Evelyn were married August 14, 1959 in the Manti Temple. They are the proud parents of eight children: Michelle Monroe (Jeff Jex) Provo, UT, Mike Monroe (Amber) Scipio, UT, Terry Monroe (Cathy) Scipio, UT, Ryan Monroe (Trina) St. George, UT, SueAnn Larson (Guy) Payson, UT, Julie Brown (Paul) Salem, UT, Kevin Monroe (Staci) Scipio, Utah, Kyle Monroe (Jamie) Fillmore, UT. Proud grandparents of twenty grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Vernon loved having all the children and grandchildren at his home visiting and having fun. Many wonderful evenings were spent visiting with friends and family on his deck.
Vernon loved his life-long work as a farmer and rancher. His honesty and hard work are an example to all who knew him. He was drafted and spent two years serving our country on board the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in numerous callings. He was active in his community serving on the town council for 12 years. He was a life-long promotor of the beef industry and was always seeking ways to improve his cattle. He served many years on the Scipio Irrigation Company and Juab Lake Irrigation Company Boards. Vernon spent his life’s work in Millard and Juab counties doing his farm work, taking care of the livestock, making many friends and enjoying life.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 13, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. in Scipio, Utah at the Scipio LDS Ward Building. Friends and family may pay their respects Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the same location. Interment will be at the Scipio Cemetery.
